As Kathi McCoy put together plans for her estate, she considered several factors.

Top priority: Making donations to nonprofit organizations she cares about most. Then: Make sure her instructions were clear so there’d be no doubt about where she wants her money to go once she’s passed on.

That’s why she included Good Samaritan Foundation in her estate plan. It was an easy decision that will make settling her affairs much simpler.

“It was just about being practical,” says Kathi, “being a strategic planner, leaving this world with as much joy and as little chaos as possible.”

Kathi is managing partner at the West Portland Physical Therapy Clinic and has traveled the world as a volunteer for nonprofit health care organizations. This work has taken her to Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Uganda, Lebanon, India, Cambodia and beyond.

She is especially dedicated to Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center because of its collaborative approach to community health. She has a long history of raising funds for the Women of Good Samaritan, dating back to the mid-1990s, when a friend convinced her to help raise money to buy bassinets. She is also a loyal donor to other Good Samaritan Foundation priorities.

Kathi appreciates that Legacy Health works with providers outside the Legacy system and partners with community organizations to care for vulnerable patients, regardless of their financial status. Kathi’s estate gift reflects her priorities and her commitment to leaving a legacy of good health.

“I want to be able to leave a part of me to programs and institutions and people that are meaningful,” she says, “with all details peacefully determined in advance.”
